My favorite part so far of The Hobbit (that I have read) is the opening line where they describe hobbit holes:
QUOTE: In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat; it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
Did you know Tolkien wrote that very line while grading exam papers when he was a professor at Oxford?

By now I bet their exam papers are framed and being passed down to their kids...*goes off in a dreamy world where she was going to inherit the exam Tolkien himself graded...* *snaps out of it* Oh well, we can only dream.
