[begin random thought patterns] A thought crossed my mind today: What makes a Hobbit a Hobbit? Could it be the ears? Nope. Many people have pointy ears: Elves, Hobbits, even Vulcans from Star Trek. Could it be the hairy Hobbit feet? Nope. Even if the hobbits had smaller feet, I'd still recognize them as hobbits. Is it the fact that they're short? Nope. Many people are short: hobbits, dwarfs, orcs. Even if a random 6 feet tall person walked up to me in the street wearing a Hobbit outfit with NO ears and NO big feet, I'd still know he was a Hobbit. Why? Is it the clothes or the hairstyle? Now, think of it this way: Elijah Wood with pointy ears and his usual short hair, wearing his human clothes. what does he look like? I'm thinking.... something that escaped the last season of Star Trek. Now, Elijah Wood with his normal ears and dark curly Hobbit hair, wearing his human clothers. What does he look like? A hobbit in strange clothes? Exactly. It's the hairstyle. ;D So.... What makes a Hobbit a Hobbit? I'd say it's the hairstyle (and a little bit of the ears, too, to make it just perfect). That's all there is to it, really. [end of random though patterns]

Thanks. It is my fondest wish that you might derive some enjoyment from this product of my poor, hobbit-obsessed brain. Meh, I was just having too much time on my hands. *ish on sick leave for today* When my mind goes idle, I start having these "creative brain burps". They're often related to LotR or scifi (loves Star Trek... ;D) but I'm not going to bother you with my stories now. Perhaps I'll just start a new topic somewhere - Green Dragon Inn might be a good place - and ramble on about my LotR/Star Trek creations there.

I had more strange thoughts today. ;D I begin to wonder what would it be like for a Hobbit to visit our time (the 21st century). How do you explain Pippin what a television is, or a computer, or a car for that matter. Not to mention a train or a huge airplane. I think the hobbits would be scared nutsless.
