Only 100 days to go till New Zealand. Strangely enough, I'm not feeling hyper. *needs to see a shrink* I think I may know what's wrong. I hate air travel with a passion. I'd much rather spend 20 hours in a car than in an airplane. Well, take off is fun ( The ground is gone...! We're flying! Wheeee!) and landing isn't too bad either, while flying in a straight line is just BORING. Especially when you're travelling alone.

*lets out a terrible scream, like Gollum when he realizes his Preciousss has been stolen* Oh bloody hell.... You know what? I just discovered a new route option that would have cut an extra 14 hours off my journey. Not to mention an extra $300 off the price. *bangs her head on the computer screen* The new route is very unusual (London - Los Angeles - Auckland) because it means "taking the long way round". We would be flying over the Atlantic ocean AND continental United States AND the Pacific ocean to reach New Zealand. That's crazy. My current flight plan is simple: a fast shortcut over Asia. That is the logical route. London - Sydney - Auckland. But because of the 14-hour transfer at Sydney (waiting for Qantas airplane) this route is both slower and more expensive than the awkward western route. So, what's the lesson for today? Never take shortcuts! Unfortunately, I learned this lesson too late. With British Airways, all sales are final, and I can't cancel my tickets. Well, I've been to California before so I won't be missing anything. Besides, I hate the US customs officials and I'm very happy to avoid them. I don't want my pictures taken and my fingers painted blue. But still..... travelling via Los Angeles would have been the fastest and the cheapest way of getting to New Zealand. *aaargghh* And who operates this mysterious "Western route" I hear about? New Zealand airlines. I might have known. Those people are insane! What kind of a flight plan is that anyway? London - Los Angeles - Auckland... We'd be travelling half-way across the globe for no reason. Meh, I live in Europe and I wanted to go to the EAST because that's where New Zealand is. Well, it never occurred to me that I could go to the WEST (and even further west) until I find myself arriving at.... the east. I never thought any airline company would be crazy enough to operate on that route. *laughing hysterically* My poor head is spinning. I would be upset if the whole thing wasn't so funny and mindboggling. There's one good thing about this though. I already managed to cut an extra $700 off the price by abandoning my native Finnair and choosing British Airways instead. So all around I'm happy with the bargain I have made. *orders a pint for everyone* I propose a toast. Here's to.... New Zealand Airlines. You're now officially labelled as The World's Craziest Airline. ;D

The elvish dictionary would be a good thing to read, only I can't read when I'm on the airplane. Motion sickness. *face turns green* I think I will just continue to haul my CD collection around. This time, I'm going to have to cut down on the number of CDs to pack because the amount of luggage is limited. *snarls at British Airways* So far, I've narrowed the list down to about ten CD's. The LotR soundtracks, some Chinese music, some relaxation/meditation music, some Enya, and some country music. Ooh, and some Finnish music and audio books of course. I'm going to spend 3 weeks completely isolated (language and culture wise) and I won't hear Finnish spoken. Yeah, the language issue is bound to drive me crazy. Not being able to express your feelings and ideas fully to the understanding of all is more unbearable than any physical discomfort I experience during the journey. The last time I was abroad I had my best friend with me and I realized just how much I needed a traveling companion. I need someone I can talk to (be it about LotR, the weather, the food, anything!), someone to whine to, someone to be hyper with, and someone to wake me up in the morning. I'm a terrible night owl and I oversleep regularly. I always miss the hotel breakfast and wake up 3 hours later only to see that my friend has already been to a local McDonalds to get me a cheeseburger. ;D She knows I'm too lazy to go out and get food before midday. *ahem* Sometimes I don't know why she puts up with me...

Oh, I wish you all could come with me. I wish that now more than ever. I got the detailed itinerary for the LotR tour, and some of the places we'll be staying are not QUITE as rustic as I imagined. www.spencerbyron.co.nz/index.htmlThis hotel has an indoor spa, gymnasium, outdoor swimming pool, and a friggin' tennis court on the roof... www.olivers.co.nz/index.htmThis hotel is located at the middle of nowhere, but it doesn't matter because somewhere out there is a LotR filming site. www.olivers.co.nz/lordoftheringscountry.htmrandom pics (I think this is Rohan) www.powderhorn.co.nz/suites.htmlWell, this blows everything away. LotR actors used to stay here. ;D I'm curious to see which room I'm going to get. The one Lij stayed in? Or perhaps Viggo's room? www.powderhorn.co.nz/lotr.htmlCheck out the pictures of the Lord of the Rings Tour. Those mountains are the same ones you see on film. A helicopter tour over Caradhras sounds awfully good to me. *shakes head* What kind of a pickle have I gotten myself into? This tour will not ease my obsession, it will only make things worse. Yeah, and I do mean worse. The last time I returned from a long trip abroad (3 weeks in California) I felt pretty lousy. Well, I was happy to return home and see my friends of course, but when that feeling passed I felt empty. Completely utterly bored. I never thought returning to my everyday life would be such a struggle. The holiday was great and everyday life is just dull. Ladies and gentlemen... I give you "The Holiday Paradox". The more fun you have the more you will miss it and the more bored you will be once you're back home.
